‘Kente’ Fashion

Hello Lovelies, Today I will be introducing you to Ghanaian traditional fashion, as I am partly Ghanaian. ‘Kente’ is a Ghanaian traditional cloth. The cloth is used to create clothing for special occasions. In Ghana we wear it to go to church, weddings, funerals, birthdays,etc.  Each ‘Kente’ has a personal significance, which is identified by the patterns on the cloth. The cloth are given names correlating their symbolic significance. The ‘ kente’ usually  shows a sign of wealth and status, because the material is relative expensive. However you have cheaper materials to create your dresses, skirts, tops, pants, etc.  Traditionally women wear ‘slit'(skirt) and ‘caba’ (top) while men wear it in a similar way as  the Toga worn in ancient Rome. However men today also use the material for different types of shirts.

In todays society the material is also being used to make western clothing. We seen the likes of Beyonce, Chris brown wearing the ‘Dashiki’ (form of top).
