Millennium Development Goals

Hello Lovelies, Screen Shot 2015-06-26 at 6.03.52 pmOn a more serious note, have you guys realised that we are in the year of 2015. Well you have probably heard of the United Nations 8 millennium development goals, which target to reduce global poverty  through, eEradicating extreme poverty & hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality & empowerment of women, reducing child mortality, improving maternity, combatting HIV/Aids, malaria and other diseases, ensuring environmental sustainability and developing a global partnership for development.  With these goals, they have reduced global poverty significantly and have succeeded in various components of the millennium goals. More children have access to education, and the goals have allowed extreme poverty to be reduced by half.  However, not all goals have been completed and we are half way through 2015. Millions of people still suffer from hunger, there is still gender inequality, etc. Were these broken promises?  I believe there is progress, however, critics are saying the  millennium development goals need to be focused  more on sustainable development.  I agree sustainable development is key, however, I would advise the aid they provide to be in respects to a country culture and traditions, so the communities within the country can upkeep it. Unless these traditions go against the development  goals, thus help the people see an alternative view.  Therefore the parties  involved (aid workers, etc) need to go to the communities and understand the people, and through their knowledge identify the appropriate aid.  I believe these act would help sustainable development and cause the UN to get closer to their goals. Because I believe understanding each other is key for sustainable development. Understanding the environment, people and their traditions and practices would  provide a brighter future.

Ps: This is easier said than done because there several other factors involved ( sovereignty, politics, etc).  Which makes it a difficult tasks, therefore this is just a opinion. Leave comments below on this topic.

Bored In The Summer

Since I graduated in May, I’ve been home ever since. Therefore I would like to help those who are home for the summer and are not sure how to occupy themselves.

Here are 10 activities:

1. Exercise. Go to the gym, go for swim, or join a activity. This would keep you in shape and keep you occupied.

2.  Relax. Go get a massage or get you nails done. However if you can’t afford to go to a parlour, create your own parlour at home. Gather your friends, and complete massages on each other, do each other nails, hair and makeup. Additionally if you guys are already dolled up you can have your own photo shoot and create videos. Which would be great memories to have for the future.

3. Go out with your friends.( Go for dinners, lunches, festivals,  nightclubs (if legal) )

4. Have sleepovers and dinners at friends houses. My friends and I have been having weekly dinners at each others houses. Everyone will bring food, wine, etc. Besides will chat, dance, play games (Card games,, Monopoly, Twister, Memory, etc), basically fool around.

Ps: The dinners  improve your cooking skills.

5. Explore the city. Go around town, maybe visit the parks,  beach, museum etc.

6. Get a summer Job. Earn a little extra cash, and at the end of the  summer you can buy yourself something nice.  (Besides that would keep you occupied 5 days  a week)

7.  Binge watch tv shows that have lot’s of seasons. I would recommend One Tree Hill, The Big Bang Theory, Smart Guy, Full House, Greys Anatomy, 90210. (I could go on forever, leave a comment if you need recommendation)

8. Start a hidden passion. There’s probably something you have always wanted to do, for example; Learn a new language, start a blog or youtube channel, etc.

9.. Volunteer work. Work at a shelter or help NGO’s at particular events. It’s a great opportunity to make new friends. Nonetheless it will look good on you Resumé.

10. Go to the movies, and catch up on all the latest movies.

Ps: Be creative, create all kinds of activities! But most important  relax and enjoy your summer.

Frozen Yoghurt

Hello Lovelies,

I think i’ve fallen in love… I discovered the best frozen yoghurt I’ve ever tried. The store is name Llao Llao. Llao Llao was founded in Spain and according to their website is ”one of the healthiest and most recommended products in the world” (As everyone values their health). The franchise was recently opened in Singapore and is a massive hit among the locals. Therefore I went for a taste. My friend and I shared a Sanum., which is when you choose two crunches, 3 fruits and a sauce. Our Sanum  consisted of Oreo cookies, blue berries, strawberries, kiwi and chocolate sauce (not a healthy option, but my motto is;  if you want to do something do it right). It was extremely filling however it tasted like heaven in my mouth. It had the right amount of sweetness, crunch  and fruits to create the right balance.  Llao Llao has a  variety of healthy options therefore I  would recommend Llao Llao as a healthier cheat option, if you are dieting or trying to lose weight.

PS: If you have one near you, I would recommend to check it out.

‘Kente’ Fashion

Hello Lovelies, Today I will be introducing you to Ghanaian traditional fashion, as I am partly Ghanaian. ‘Kente’ is a Ghanaian traditional cloth. The cloth is used to create clothing for special occasions. In Ghana we wear it to go to church, weddings, funerals, birthdays, etc.  Each ‘Kente’ has a personal significance, which is identified by the patterns on the cloth. The cloth are given names correlating their Processed with VSCOcam with m3 presetsymbolic significance. The ‘ kente’ usually  shows a sign of wealth and status, because the material is relative expensive. However you have cheaper materials to create your dresses, skirts, tops, pants, etc.  Traditionally women wear ‘slit'(skirt) and ‘caba’ (top) while men wear it in a similar way as  the Toga worn in ancient Rome. However men today also use the material for different types of shirts.

In todays society the material is also being used to make western clothing. We seen the likes of Beyonce, Chris brown wearing the ‘Dashiki’ (form of top). Screen Shot 2015-06-26 at 9.29.56 am

Singapore

Hello lovelies, Singapore can be seen as my second home as I have lived in the country for almost 10 years. It is known for it’s delicious affordable cuisine,  humid weather, shoppingmalls and exquisite architecture. If you are ever considering visiting, their are 5 necessities you have to keep in mind:

1. Have enough money saved: Singapore has affordable places to eat at, where you can eat  a meal for a minimum of 2$ at the food courts. However there are lavish restaurants which relatively expensive.  Moreover they have a buzzing nightlife, and many daily activities which can cost a large sum of money.

2. Summer clothes: It’s Always summer! So bring those bootie shorts and bikini’s because Singapore is the place to wear them.

3. Umbrella: The sun might always be shining, however it rains quiet frequently especially in the months of December and January.

4. Outing Outfits: There is a exquisite nightlife, with dance clubs, bars, lounges and restaurants situated all over the island.

5. Be open minded: Respects Singapore’s Laws, Religion and culture.  Singapore has a lot of different cultures, which come with different traditions, religions, cuisines. However the country has been able to integrate these different cultures and form a admirable society( In my school I had over 75 different nationalities). Therefore read up on the country, so you can respect the different cultures and enjoy your holiday.

Ps: In Singapore we call our elders ‘uncles’ and ‘aunties’ even though they are not related to you.  (This is a form of respect) IMG_4789
